The prompt for today at NaPoWriMo is to write a poem that is a portrait of someone important to you.
Sometimes I wonder if you ever knew how deeply your presence touched me
A safe port through many storms, you were always there, arms wide
To dry my tears, make me smile, sit on the porch, walk in the woods, fly a kite
So many words of wisdom were imparted from your lips to my ears
Never shall I forget the way that you made me feel safe and strong
In times when the entire world was spinning out of control
And what should have been a haven was a place of tumult
Many were the days that you were the one person who gave me hope
That things wouldn’t always be so complicated and often hideous
You have been gone for much longer than I like to remember
Yet you will forever be alive in my heart, and have my undying gratitude
For what was often the only love that I felt that I had.
