The prompt for day 1 at NaPoWriMo was to write a poem in the style of Kay Ryan. I typically follow most of the prompts, but I am going to pass on this one. I’ve gone out and read several pieces of her work and while it is definitely a unique and interesting style, it is one which I cannot relate to. So…today’s poem is free style.
As we go through life, we are all wading
Navigating the crisp, clear waters of joys and murky goo of hardships alike
With the hope that someday we will be able to step off into the deep
To glide through the currents with strong expertise and skill
And drift through the calm spots with ease and grace
There are times when it feels as though wading will last forever
That slogging through the thick mire at the bottom is our fate
Hope springs eternal though, with each triumph bolstering our courage
With each free-fall into love feeling exilirating yet dreamlike
Helping us to keep wading, not losing sight of the freedom which awaits.
