Dear beautiful souls,
Not only are we kicking off a new year, this is the first official post on the new blog. If you too are feeling glad to see 2016 out the door, you aren’t alone. It was a challenging year on so many levels. We were energetically bombarded with some of the most intense lessons and opportunities for growth which many of us have seen in decades, if not our entire lives.
The world also saw what felt like a mass exodus of celebrities and younger people. These losses rocked many of us to our core. There are all sorts of explanations floating around out there, and sure I could get into them here, but I’d honestly rather not. Much of it would be conjecture, and it isn’t my preference to deal with conjecture when it comes to life, death, and grieving. Even when the intention is good, we have to understand that none of us has all the answers to everything and that putting our opinion, even if it matches that of many others out there, can feel empty to those experiencing losses. All that I am comfortable expressing when it comes to this is my sincere sympathy, and to tell you that I definitely understand the feeling of profound sorrow when it comes to loss.
With all of that being said, I think that a good many of us would agree that 2016 showed us strengths which we weren’t even aware that we had. In the midst of the chaos and unrest, we were able to find a lot of clarity about who we are, what we wish for ourselves, about what matters, and just as importantly…what doesn’t matter. There is still a lot of unrest in our world right now, yet many of us dug deep and did a lot of inner work in 2016, which gives us a strong foundation and sense of hope moving forward into the new year.
Personally, the unrest of 2016 pushed me to take leaps into uncharted territory in just about every aspect of my life. While I may be stepping out of the old year a little weary, I have no regrets. Feeling emboldened to live my life on my own terms, and diving into things despite the fears that I had has been amazing. You wanna hear something wonderful? I had the opportunity to speak with literally hundreds of people in 2016 who were finding themselves on similar ground, who dug deep and found it within themselves to examine their deepest selves and desires and boldly move toward a reality of their own making.
“A reality of their own making” may sound like a weird way to word it, but when you think about it, it makes sense. How many of you have lived much of your lives in a reality which was created for you by the words and actions of others? Yep, me too. It feels so good to silence those voices of doubt…the shoulds, coulds, and ought tos. Somewhere along the way, many of us had been convinced that it was bad to think independently and to live outside of the boxes which the world wants to place us in. The time for that has passed for so many of us.
We are finally starting to regain our admiration for the rebel thinkers. Those brave ones who dare to swim upstream and create powerful change, make tremendous discoveries, and foster great joy in the hearts of many. So, here we are…a new beginning. It might be a little scary, but I know that there are many of us who are certain that we wouldn’t have it any other way. The time has arrived to be ourselves, be unconventional, chase our dreams, question those who would tell us how we “should” be conducting ourselves and our lives. Of course some compassion, common sense, and human decency always belong in the mix. Other than that though, this is our time. I’m glad to have you here with me. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
